The height factor mystifies me.  A very few get in the range of the
registered heights here.  Most of my tall ones are seedlings, so I wonder
how tall they would get grown somewhere else.  I've kept some of those just
because of the height they manage.  In fact I crossed one older type with
AUTUMN ECHO which is a prolific bloomer than never gets tall to see how the
height would be affected in the seedlings.  As they bloom they go on the
compost pile, but they have had tall stalks.  Still a few more to bloom and
get discarded.  Otherwise, I have some that get tall every couple of years
but bloom short the rest of the time.  Some are never tall.  It shouldn't
entirely be due to growing conditions since clumps grown side by side vary.
I think my constant wind during stalk growth probably shortens the ultimate
height somewhat, but can't explain the shortness on all of them.

I wonder if VIOLET MIRACLE will have tall stalks consistantly.  How many
seasons have you grown this one?
