Hi Griff,
"Exciting" isn't exactly how I'd describe the gray seedling. The gray color
is its only saving grace. The falls are narrow and long with blatant yellow
haft marks. To give you some idea without having to post a photo of this
poor thing, the beard is proportionate to the falls and is roughly twice as
long as the beard on a normal SDB. Everything else is a proper size for the
class.
I can't help thinking that even the seedling knows it's ugly.... It always
appears to be gagging. :-)
Using it to breed for something wide and pretty seems like a long shot but
focusing in on the length of those falls...... I can imagine something
farther down the line on slim stalks with falls and standards that are long
enough to bend and twist in the wind like ribbons around a May pole. Pretty?
Maybe not but I'd like to explore the possibility that something exotic
could be pulled from the gene pool.
