Re: TB: (was Re: AIS vs TBIS )

Can't tell who the following came from originally:
Bud conventions? I've been to a couple. Dearborn was my first, Burlington
was my second. I forget the third. Much to my regret I saw no PCNs at any of
them.

I have been to one-and-a-half conventions (it costs too much to travel, or
I'd gladly go more). In Portland I saw some PCNs in bloom. In Sacramento (we
only did the optional tour) we saw quite a few, and tons more blooming wild
along the coast on the way back. Someone put a picture in the AIS bulletin of
my wife sitting in a field of wild PCNs. Probably few of the growers at the
other conventions bothered to grow PCNs (limited interest or unsuitable
climate) and few were sent as guest plants. Other species of iris can have
nice flowers in their suitable climatic regions, but (whether it makes
everyone happy or not) overall TB's are more adaptable and more popular. For
California climates, I would champion louisianas as an under-appreciated
garden plant.
