HYB: zonal definition

Just finished reading thru archived discussions about the zonal pattern
and now am wondering what the definition of zonal is - phenotype, not
genotype, i.e., what does it look like?

Is it just a white (no anthocyanin) spot on the falls surrounding the
beard (and comparable area on the standards), regardless of veining? Is
there ever any anthocyanin dotting in the white area? Is the spot
supposed to be a certain size or only be present on a particular part of
the falls/standards?

I ran across this comment - <Keith [Keppel] is still trying to come up
with
an exact definition of zonal, and was hard at work on it this spring
[2004].>

Anybody know if Keith has finished defining the zonal pattern and if so,
what he came up with?

I found lots of examples of zonals in the archives, but don't grow many
of them. It's not a pattern I like at all.

But now I have this seedling......
