I don't know when they hibernate, Betty, but I know how to get rid of them, if you have a problem. -- Griff

Congratulations!

<<Am happy to report that both survived and prospered,>>

The one time I deliberately sprouted seed in the fall, the seed did not live.
Since I hold many of my pots over, I'm pretty sure I've seen more sprouts in
the fall. Can't seem to remember to check on them and they get lost in the
forest! Bye spring it's hard to remember which pots had them. The seed are
being kept in a more protected location.

Anyone know when groundhogs hibernate? Is it constant?

Last year, when I posted this message, I received one or two condolences,
ssuring me that the seedlings wouldnbt survive the winter. Am happy to
eport that both survived and prospered, and Ibm looking forward to seeing

Just finished planting seeds today -- 2 months later than usual. Imagine
my
urprise when, opening the winter frame (a mesh-topped enclosure open to the
eather), I found two sprouts in a pot left over from a previous year. One
as three leaves, the other two, and both are less than 3 inches tall, so I
ust conclude that they have sprouted during the last couple of weeks. Never
ad fall sprouts before. The pot was completely shaded, so I moved it to the
pposite wall of the enclosure, where it will get winter sun and warmth
eflected off the wooden wall, and gave it a light covering of pine straw.
he low was 22 last night. It warmed up to 39 today. Plum Wine bloomed today
