<<I am amazed that Betty can plant so late where I know it will soon be cold
weather.>>

Francelle, I normally go out every few days and tromp anything in that has a
problem. Last year, I planted right up until the day before I went into the
hospital--Nov. 18th. I was not able to check on the plants until the end of
March. Since I transplanted clumps, rather than individual rhizomes, it's
possible I lost one here or there, but I saw no evidence of loss. I didn't
get the very best possible bloom, but I will say I was happy with it. I
harvested a lot of pollen from the bed and it brought many pods to maturity.
Planted 1672 seed. I've had a successful year.

The last bed I planted this year has two rows (50 clumps) of rebloomers with
other rebloomers scattered trough the beds. Most of these were not performing
in the garden proper. I'm anxious to see how they like the new bed. We'll
see how many bloom this spring.

I really have no choice. I have to push both ends of the year. If I don't
plant in adverse conditions, I don't get to plant at all. Even if the irises
liked being transplanted in 95+ temperatures, my body has problems with it.
We didn't get much fall this year.

Oh! My SDB are looking a bit scraggly from the heat. Looks like some of the
weaker increases may be gone.

ello, Everyone,
finally got all my irises planted and replanted here in Southern AZ where
e had our last 100 degree day less than a week ago. I planted my last bed
n a race with predicted rain, the only time I can remember that I prayed
hat it wouldn't rain. It held off until the last one was planted then
atered them in.
am amazed that Betty can plant so late where I know it will soon be cold
eather. This is latest I can plant here in the warm country and have my
rises do well. I have noticed that when the ground gets cool in my garden,
oots don't form. Last year I planted from the first of Oct. to the second
eek in Nov. There was a direct correspondence between time of planting and
igor of the irises. The first ones bloomed well. The last ones didn't
loom at all and about a third died.
