What about in zone 9 (or 10?) dry climate? I thought there were bearded irises growing in hot dry parts of the country without much vernalization? Maybe it gets colder in those places than I realize.
I figure where there's a will there's a way - how about digging and storing them in the fridge for a month or 4 each winter, 'forcing' them like tulips.
