Rebloom, Zone 7, VA

In 1997, I planted many rebloomers, from June through October. Some
bloomed this spring, some did not. However, I have had "rebloom" of
various things since July. I thought that October would be the peak
month, however, if not for frost forecast for tonight, perhaps November
would have been the peak month. We did have a cooler and drier summer
than normal for Richmond, VA this year. We also had some unseasonable
cold weather in September.
Rebloom in November:
ELEANOR ROOSEVELT (IB, SASS-MCDADE, 1933), Dk purple, very reliable
rebloomer.
TAWNY (IB, PRAY 1974), unusual gold-tan with lavender stripe, several
stalks, ~3 buds/stalk
LADY EMMA (MTB, JONES 1986)
BABY BLESSED (SDB, ZURBRIGG 1979)
BABY SNOWFLAKE (SDB, PETERSON, 1963)
BROM BONES (SDB, BURTON 1988)
CAYENNE CAPER (TB, GIBSON 1961)
CROSS STITCH (TB, ZURBRIGG, 1973), VIOLET ON WT PLICATA, with a violet
line on the center of the falls. One of my prettiest rebloomers. Very
strong stalk with large branches and lots of buds. One stalk had 3
branches and 14 buds. I have cut this and brought it in. Another stalkis
coming.
GOLDEN ENCORE (TB, JONES 1973)
IMMORTALITY (TB,ZURBRIGG 1982), was run over by a car, but still put up
a bloomstalk!
JULY SUNSHINE (TB, BROWN, 1964)
PERFUME COUNTER (ZURBRIGG, 1972),large purple bloom
SEPTEMBER REPLAY (TB, JONES/LOWE, 1992) has produced bloomstalks since
July with bloom in July, August, September, October and November. (4
rhizomes in 3 locations)
SUNNY DISPOSITION (TB, ZURBRIGG 1989) very strong bloomstalks,
branching, lots of buds and bloom. Cut 2 bloomstalks from one rhizome,
a 3rd bloomstalk coming!
UNKNOWN OLD-FASHIONED WHITE, haft markings, yellow-orange beard, very
vigorous grower, multiple bloomstalks, many blooms, blooming
continuously Oct-Nov, more coming. Possibility: SUMMER WHITEWINGS,
BROWN 1961. Any other suggestions????
LENORA PEARL (BB, NICHOLS 1990), ruffled salmon pink, orange beards.
Bloomstalk cut today: 3 branches, 6 buds ready to open, 5 additional
buds.
I have bloomstalks coming on the following. I placed tomato cages
around them today, covered with a pillowcase, and placed pine needles
(~6" long) around the base of the pillowcase. On a few, in which the
bloomstalk was only ~6" tall, I piled pine needles around and over the
plant. We expect temperatures in the 20s in the area for the next 3
nights. Usually, my yard doesn't reach temperatures as low as the
forecast. since this is my first fall with rebloomers, I am curious to
see if I will actually see the following bloom:

BLESSED AGAIN (IB, JONES 1976)
DAWN (IB/MTB, YELD 1911)
PLUM WINE (SDB, WEILER 1986)
BROTHER CARL (TB, ZURBRIGG, 1983)
CAYENNE CAPER
CORAL CHARMER (TB, WRIGHT, 1982)
HARVEST OF MEMORIES (TB, ZURBRIGG, 1985)
HOLY NIGHT (TB, MOHR 1983)
LEMON REFLECTION (TB, SMITH 1978)
MATRIX (TB, HALL 1991)
PERFUME COUNTER
VIOLET MIRACLE (TB, ZURBRIGG 1993)
WITCH OF ENDOR (TB, MILLER 1978)
JOAN'S PLEASURE (TB, ZURBRIGG 1993), 3 BLOOMSTALKS COMING FROM ONE
RHIZOME PLANTED LAST FALL.

COLORSCAPE (TB, INNERST 1988) not listed as a rebloomer. did not bloom
in spring, bought at iris rhizome sale, mislabeled??? If frost doesnt
get it, maybe I'll find out!

9:30 pm, 34 Deg F.

I have more irises in my house tonight than I have ever had in my life!

Griff, last year, I placed sand on top of my newly planted rhizomes and
a shallow layer of pine needles between the rhizomes. I also have
irises planted under 3 very tall pines which are the source of my pine
needles. They automatically mulch the irises underneath them. This
also happens to be the hottst, driest part of my yard, no rot problems,
but not the most vigorous growth either. good bloom though. I do
spread lime around occasionally where I have pine needles.
