At least one household in Ottawa received the bulletin this week! It
arrived on day before the postal strike began in the same mail as the
SINGA bulletin . This should take me through to Christmas without too
much problem.
I have four irises growing in pots in doors.
Moraea, which has strong plants growing to 3ft high,. looks wonderful
but never flowers.
Dietes, which are not so strong and, after four years, plants are 18
inches. Some look healthy but never flower, however, I gave a few away
to a sick friend and she telephone me some months later to say they were
flowering!
Iris innominata, which remains at 6 inches and plants die about once a
week! It is sick, never flowers, and drives me crazy.
My success in growing irises from seed through to flowering outside is
not matched in any way by my absolute failure to get my African irises
to flower at all. Why? Are people fertilizing, not watering, watering
all the time, or what?
I should note that my Iris japonica has just died as well, again
indoors!
Ian, in Ottawa where the temperatures is around freezing and we have a
couple of inches of snow coming today.
