Dear Leslie: I grew I unguicularis (then called I. stylosa) in Radford VA
. I lost it and blamed myself for putting kitty litter (used) around it.
Here in Durham NC I do nothing to it, almost never water it, and it seems
to stay alive and gives me winter bloom, usually in February. It amazes me
that it can bloom between freezes, yet show no damage to the flower, which
is rather large on rather short stalks. I shall be happy to hear what
others to do it. I know the Lowes grow it in Blackstone, VA Lloyd
