The yellow blackberry lilly is actually a separate species: Belamcanda
flabellata, sometimes sold under the name 'Hello Yellow.' As Dennis has
suggested it does better under border conditions than does the orange,
spotted species. This latter one seems to prefer drier conditions and here
in VA it is sometimes found naturalized on ledges, in dry clearings or on
flatrocks.
B. flabellata is a more compact plant and in my experience a more lasting
perennial. So far as I know it has not been used in breeding, but it would
be interesting to try crossing it with Paradanthopsis or with the
Pardancanda hybrids, to introduce shorter plants with better foliage.
