Re: Blackberry Lily

>>I have tried the Blackberry Lily, but without much luck. The first year,
it died altogether.<<

In Ottawa, we have been growing this plant in a somewhat sheltered location for
about seven years. It is against the house facing south. It gets about three
feet of snow each winter.

We take no special care anymore; it survives only because we are indifferent to
its location.

I believe Ian Efford also has it going in Ottawa, but in a completely different
microclimate. (We could say 'nanoclimate' in our situation.)

It self-seeds. I pot the seedlings up for the local hort. society sale when
convenient (and pull them when it is not).

It is very suceptible to borer. It took me a couple of years to figure out how
the damned things survived my cygon spraying regime. I had to modify my spray
pattern.

It did not bloom the first year, but has been unfailing ever since. The
flowers are attractive, but the seed pods are striking.

Sandy (in Ottawa where it feels very frosty even now)
