The process of confirming the identity on any iris consists not only of noting
the things that are similar to another iris--and by iris I mean the whole iris
and not just the bloom but also including the plant's growth habits, bloom
time, and susceptibility to disease when grown in the identical location-- but
also by noting all things that are different. The novice at identification--in
which category I place myself-- dwells on the former, the expert becomes
sensitive to the latter. When all these factors are considered, there may or
may not be a large pool of candidates for the identity of any unknown iris.
You question was whether you could just go ahead and put a name to your
neglecta based on the very strong resemblance to the photograph of HELEN
COLLINGWOOD on the HIPS page. My answer was that I, personally, would not do
so. You are free to disregard my answer, but my answer will not change.
