I agree the species should have a medal.
How is Marvell Gold growing? I to am interested in species. I have had luck
with Pecos Mt. I. missouriensis, I. aphylla, I. astrachancia, I. gaminea, I.
lactea, I. fulva (dull red variety), I. giganticaerulea, and various regelia
arils. I. hoogiana, I. korolkowii, I. stolonifera, are growing nicely in my
Albuquerque, NM garden (zone 6). I have several other types of species iris
growing in my yard.
Does anyone know how to contact the Rare Iris Study Center mentioned in the
AIS Bulletin. I am very interested in offering my garden to grow some of
their endangered iris. I am a good gardener. I have 450 varieties of
perennials, and 315 iris. I have two ponds and many rock gardens. I can
supply meadow, rocky, alkaline soil, dry winters, wet summers, and high
(5000+) elevations, woodland, or wetland environments. Please let me know it
any of your iris babies would like my yard.
