Dennis,
AIS is one jump ahead of you on this one! Medal awards for Species and for
Inter-species crosses have been authorized, and SIGNA has designed the
medals and named them - the "Founders of SIGNA" Medal for species,
featuring a depiction of I. cristata, and the "Randolph-Perry" Medal for
Interspecies hybrids, featuring a depiction of I. versicolor (a natural
interspecies hybrid). Irises eligible for these medals were actually listed
on the 1997 AIS Judges ballot, but since AM's were first awarded in these
classes in 1995, the pool of eligible candidates was very limited. At the
request of SIGNA the AIS Board cancelled the balloting for the new medals
in '97 and set 1999 as the first year for them to be awarded.
