AIS: Iris database revisited

Hello Iris friends:
I have some very factual information on the AIS database project to pass along to you all. I am sure there is substantial interest in this information as there were a large number of messages recently on the Iris Talk List discussing this topic.
I have recently been in contact with Howard Hughes who is the driving force behind the project. Here are some facts about the project and the status of it directly from him.

There are 46,637 records this covers all registrations up to the 1997 book.
There will be an expected 800 to 1000 additional when the 1998 R and I book is available.
Each item in the printed checklists has been entered into a separate field. This will allow the list to be sorted by any field. There is also a sorting field to allow for exact alphabetical listings.
Fields are as follows:
Cultivar Name
Hybridizer
Introducer
Introduction Year
Registration Year
Seedling Number
Variety
Height Inches
Height Cm's
Season
Color Code
Description
Parentage
Awards
Along with several control fields

Microsoft Access97 is used for the database program. File size is approx 40 Mb at present.
Hopefully an index will be available soon. The index will tell you which book to look in to find the information on an iris. The full version will be made available on a CD disk some time ???
Project started in November 1996.
Project status November 1998  60%-70% done.

There you go...
