Hi all,
I currently have a Vareigata TB flowering in my garden. This is a very
late bloomer, rather than a rebloom. It has bloomed late each year, for
3 years. I have visited the HIPS site, bloom in hand, and compared it
with Mikes comparison chart. The irises it most resembles are:
Picador (Morrison 1930) except that the haft marking covers a slightly
smaller area, and the falls are a little lighter, and a little redder.
Otherwise, the standard and fall shape are much the same.
Beau Sabreur (Williamson 1930) except that the beards are a little
narrower, and the haft markings cover a little more area.
My bloom is 3 days old and holding up well. The standards are touching ,
and still firm, and standing out. It has a light, sweet fragrance. The
plant is small (growing in poor soil in a semi-shade) and has purple
based foliage.
Does anyone have any other suggestions as to what it might be? Any other
details that I might include?
TIA, Jan Clark, in Australia
