I think they are negatives with any packing material as I
indicated in my earlier post, but, just to be cranky, I will stick with
the styrofoam.
Nobody has mentioned the damp plastic 'worms' sometimes
used with non-bearded. That doesn't degrade either. Each time I
have received rhizomes in that slimy stuff, the rhizomes have been
fairly dried out on receipt. I think this material has run its course
as it has been several years since I have gotten anything packaged
in it. A damp paper towel wrapped around the rhizome in a baggie
or produce bag from the grocery store does well.
Occasionally, I have been shocked at receiving beardless
shipped bare root (from CA even) and all survived. I will add they
were not shipped UPS but came Priority Mail. Anyway, bareroot
shipping for beardless is risky business.
