I took a chance and ordered two Onco hybrids from van Bourgondien's. They
arrived yesterday and I was mightily pleased. Each bag contained two
plants of each variety, and the rhizomes were really clumps, not individual
divisions. Two of the total of four had 5 apparantly blooming-size
rhizomes, and all appear quite sound, with some small active growths
appearing. I believe these are imports from Israel.
My plan is to pot them in large clay pots and leave them outside until the
weather gets very cold, then move them to a cool spot in the greenhouse and
see what happens. The soil mix will be half sand, and half my standard
potting mixture of leafmold, peat/perlite and ground bark, with added lime.
The surviving pure arils from my plantings of the early 80s have also
reappeared with spears of foliage. Maybe there will be some bloom this
year. Last spring I had one stalk of I. korolkowii.
