Hi Wendy
"Iris virus'... I like it. It's totally the way I feel at the moment...
and on reading your email, I also have a few daylillies, november
lillies and hippeastrum (sp?) as well as many varieties of daisies and
geranium. (as a previous disliker of geranium, I've been sucked in
there too).
I'm a firm believer that my garden has to contain plants that are
drought proof, frost resistant, will grow in any type of soil, and
basically 'bomb proof', because of the really large variation in
temperatures that we get and the hotter it gets, the less inclined I am
to go out watering regularly. Irises fit the bill perfectly.
I was surprised to find that the irises seemed to grow better, the more
neglected they were! Strange!
I've already started digging all over the place. I got my partner to
plough up a section of ground with the tractor and have more than
tripled the original size of the garden. This is over 2 years. I'm
lucky in that respect. I'm on a farm with area to move in near the
house (until I fill it all up with irises that is!)
Gippsland... that's sort of near Sale is it? That section of Vic,
anyway?
It's going to take me a long time to work through the posts for this
group. I reckon it's going to be worth the effort. I was going to have
a try at propagating... but not knowing some of the names is making
that idea difficult.
Oh well...
I'll just have to keep on getting more Irises instead.
Regina
