Re: Re: CULT: shade tolerance

Linda,

This is great news!!! I love the few Louisiana pictures I have and have
been hoping they stood some sort of chance. The ones I planted, from Iris
City Gardens, have been sending out new leaves lately. They are actually
facing North, kind of, at the bottom of a small slope. Sounds crazy, but
they may actually do well there. We have freeze/thaws all the time around
here, but once these plants grow up two feet, bang, they reach the top of
the slope and the sunny southern rays. As for anything I plant next year, I
am soooo happy you told me this about your Lousianas. I've gotten mostly
suggestions from my post, but none so far with the information you've
provided. The slope I refer to surrounds most of my yard on the north and
west sides, dropping about 2-3 feet to the wetlands. If these Louisianas do
work, I've got acres of space for them. Now the hardest part- waiting.
Arrrrgh.

Bill

Ken,

Thanks for the reply. I have plenty of room to experiment. For those that
don't like standing water, I could just plant them higher on the raised
hummocks whcih seem to be rather damp but not fully wet. Thanks again.

Bill
