Hi Colleen,
I am glad to hear that someone else is alos suffering this very wet, windy
spring....Its very blowy and cold here today, but all the blooming irises
are holding up...some with the added help of a stake or two..:)
I had that problem last year with falling over stalks with rotted/withered
middles, and discovered some very hungry slimy slugs having a midnight
feast, when I went out in the p.m. to slug investigate/murder....They seemed
to climb up the stalk so far and then stopped and had a good munch.Maybe
they got to tired to slime up to the best bits,,ie the buds, as I found it
happened to the tallest stalks...Most of the ones that had this happen to
them ,were in the most sheltered secluded spots in my garden, so I
automatically wiped out a wind blast theory. But then this season is the
same as last year, wild and wet....and I have had no slug /snail
problems..But then again..I was prepared and laid out beer laiden snail bait
saucers for the horrible things to drown a happy death in...The plates have
been so full of nasty slimeys, that I am hoping that there arent many left
in the garden.
Odd isnt it , but I didnt have snails till a friend gave me a home grown
plant..and soon after there were snails sliming around...Now if only I could
get the frogs to eat more. By the way the culprit slugs were those massive
fat tiger slugs.I often find them eating my cats biscuits, must have
perculiar tastes....
Whats in Bloom Now..: Got the Blues, Creative Stitchery, Jessies Song,
Superstition, Lily My Love, and it is beautiful, Amazon Bride,Crazy for You,
Yaquina Blue, Silverado, Silkirim,Sostenique ,Memphis Blues, Mystic Waters,
Cabaret Royale, and many more ...also Pseudocaurus, the yellow one with the
black then stripes,.I.foetedissima,.JI. Majo Tojo..JIs have lots of
buds...must like all the rain....Pacific Coasts: are just about finished.
Colleen, your new babies that you sent have been glorious..Thank You:) :)
I will be waiting to see what the result is from our discussions..Hope you
are getting time to sit and view your irises...Regards from Wendy
Sargeant...Cod, Windy Wet,Victoria, Australia...

> Interesting to see the rebloom reports, our bloom season is in full
swing, although several weeks late for the bearded iris. It's been the
coldest wettest October for many years, and very windy. I certainly know
which irises won't go over in the wind.
> Have some interesting seedlings coming out. One of the most interesting is
Taj Regis (brown bearded lavender) X Sky Hooks The bloom is a pure soft blue
lavender with horned beards, very heavily tipped bright yellow, with very
nice branching. It is it's maiden bloom so I will follow with interest, also
a number of nice red-browns from various breeding.

The clarity of the colours in PC are great.

> I've just been to a friends house, whom I gave some irises to. Her
Stairway to Heaven, Honky tonk Blues and Silver Fox look just stunning, as
they are in a spot very sheltered from the wind. Does STH ever produce
pollen, I know it is pod fertile.

> A question, a number of our irises are developing withering in the middle
of the bloom stalks ( unlike rot at junctions) and just falling over. I had
assumed the problem was the excessively cold winds we've had, however
someone who has no wind problems is also having this problem, any answers
out there????? Scented Bubbles and Austrian Garnets seem the worse attected.
