Don' mean to burst  your bubble, Linda, but what you said has been done - 
there will be a trait in an iris that a hybridizer needs to us to hopefully 
improve what he/she is working on --it is well known that that is done.  What 
the rules are against is irresponsible iris growers selling and giving away 
to just plain gardeners who then divide them with their friends, etc and THAT 
is the objection - not someone who is working to improve an iris. And an 
introduced iris should be significantly different from what has been 
introduced before --- but we all know that that criteria is not always 
followed!  but don't give up on keeping the iris world on its toes!!  Rosalie
