I'm probably the only one on the list with a unix workstation but I bet there
are a bunch of folks with computer related experience here. So I am going to
add another thought here that I wouldn't mind hearing comments on from you
and other fellow wizards (much better word than geeks, eh?).
Asking how folks will use the data is an excellent idea. However, as eleitist
as this may sound, I think its inappropriate to discuss underlying software
issues. Specifically I mean stuff like the choice of search software.
Here's my argument... If there is an expressed need to include a search
engine, I don't think the average user cares what it is, they just want it to
work, as easily and problem free as possible please. But I firmly believe the
solution should be limited to open platform solutions. Further, professionals
in computers and experienced dabblers have a wealth of knowledge and skills
that will reccommend solutions that the user wouldn't know and shouldn't care
about. So you get the ability to share this knowledge and experience to come
up with the best solution, not just one that the most people have heard of...
Perhaps we should have a separate list for iris related, electronic/computer
only discussions. Where fellow wizards can commune and also give a hand to
those out there with AIS projects or running iris club web pages and the
like.
What do you think?
