Re: Re: HYB: CULT: early germination

Some statistics of 2002/2003 years TB seedlings from my friend in Kiev,
Ukraine:
Seeds sowed not later than 3 days after harvesting in August:
Crop 2002: 1504 seeds in 43 pods. Germinated fall 2002: 34 seeds. Germinated
spring 2003: 634 seeds.
Seeds sowed in mid Sept - early October, harvested in August:
Crop 2002: 216 seeds in 7 pods. Germinated spring 2003: 2 seeds.

34 seeds early germinated in fall are mostly from two cross: Tiger Honey X
Queen in Calico (16 from 44, another 16 germinated in spring) and Baboon
Bottom X Queen in Calico (11 from 33, 0 germinated in spring). Baboon Botton
usually gave seeds with intimely germination.

Relatively low percent of germination for summer sowing (usual is 50-60%)
and VERY low percent of germination for fall sowing obviously are due to
permafrozen soil (-20oC) during all the winter. So stratification process
did not had of ideal conditions.
