Re: my first REB: ever,

Fun to find one, especially the first, isn't it!

I didn't know that Iris could rebloom till I moved to Albuquerque, and that
November when I first got here, I saw little purple and yellow IB's blooming
by the hundreds in the median of Central Avenue. That really got my
attention! It really left a lasting impression. Maybe that's part of why I
like germanicas and other old IB's so much.

I always wanted to get some of those first ones for myself, but I never
discovered who to ask, and I was a bit too honest to pilfer any. Now I know
more about the City of Albuquerque, I work for the big mess, so I wouldn't
hesitate to snitch a few pieces (nobody would care); oh well, live and learn.
Several years ago they ripped out all the Iris and Yuccas, and planted some
high water junk that looked horrible and died almost immediately.

I never figured out which cultivars the Iris were, but they were old ones.
The first Iris to rebloom in my garden was inherited Eleanor Roosevelt that I
brought south from Colorado. I didn't learn her name until relatively
recently (maybe the purple blooming in Central Ave. back in 1982 was the
same?). The yellow was the same size as ER, but I don't have it myself, and I
haven't seen any blooming this year anywhere, now that I'm really paying
attention; hope to figure it out some day.

Well, anyway, as usual I wandered off to the side a bit there. Signing off
for now.

Dave
