All this talk of Frank Adams got me to looking for pic on the web. I
found this page on Accent (ExtravaganzaX Frank Adams) Buss 1952.
Here's a link to the page:

It's a French site, this page is in Engligh though. Great resolution. Is
malvidin possibly from variegata?
Just a thought...

What was the FA pigment and how was it different?

I remember reading about Frank Adams in TWOI, but I
don't have it with me. So, from my memory, Frank Adams
is supposed to produce malvidin (a different
anthocyanin from delphinidin or violanin). I'm not
quite sure what the difference is -- as far as number
and/or position of attached hydroxyl groups, etc. But
in any case, it mentioned that there are fuschia
flowers that are essentially spectrum red that are
highly pigmented with malvidin. So, the possibility
exists -- to produce a red iris by intensifying the
production of malvidin.
