I looked at that thing on Ebay a few days back too. Could be the auction
is over, but I may have saved the link. Anyway, it was a pretty thing.
Assuming the photo was really taken of the plant they were selling, I was
tempted. I don't think it was really 'Drakula's Shadow' though. It looked
like it might be something from the 70's or 80's (if my memory of the photo
is correct), and was a definite bitone.
I've noticed that some Ebay sellers just stick a name on that seems to fit.
I commonly see obvious historics (at least in the photos) listed with names
that are less than five years old, and occasionally the opposite too. On
the other hand there are some really interesting plants coming up for sale
there, and I suspect most sellers are trying to be honest and get it right.
Most, if they don't know what it is, say so. Some even capitalize on it
being "at least ..... years old", or it was "Great Grandma's Iris". I've
ordered from about six different sellers, based on the photos this fall so
far, and they've all come in good condition (after being assured that the
photos are of the actual plants being sold). I'm just curious, and it's
fun. They certainly aren't expensive (usually).
Got some really nice Iris books on Ebay last year. I think I'd go into
withdrawal for about 10 years if computers suddenly went away again.
