Linda,
Even thought my main focus is rebloomers, I make most of my crosses in the
spring. If I have two seedling that appear to be of equal value, it would be to
my advantage to know that one of them has shown fall bloom. This is one of
my main reasons for flagging the ones that have bloomed this fall.
It also allows me to keep an eye on these clumps. (For possible corrective
action) I don't make a habit of cutting out the fall stalks that don't make it
. . . as recommended. However, I do a garden 'walk' nearly every day and
could easily spot problems. Flags make it easier.
Whether or not they become true "keepers" will be determined over the period
of several seasons!
