HYB:Planting time
This year I'm planting a whole month earlier than usual! Often, I have to
fight mother nature to find a day warm enough to plant around Thanksgiving!
Last year it was so cold that I brought some of the pots into the house to
plant! Not satisfactory at all!
Today was quite pleasant. I was even able to shed the long sleeves and long
pants for more comfortable attire! (for me anyway) Most of the pots were
filled several weeks ago. I planted seed in 55 MUM pots. Twenty five seed is
my target number per pot. Some pods only had 8-15 seed this year. I always
feel that is a waste of a good pot! <vbg>
Plastic made life easier today! Scissors were all I needed to cut the
chicken wire! I was afraid I'd have to go hunting for tin snips or some such
tool! The pots are neatly lines up in 11 rows 5 pots across. The chicken wire
is in place. I have a bale of spoiled straw to layer over the chicken wire
once I've thoroughly soaked the pots for 3 -4 days. Then I'll water them well
for a couple more days once the straw is spread.
About 2 months ago I determined how many pots I would need to fill.
Everything goes on the Excel sheet. Got a chuckle today when I saw two crosses side
by side. One had 63 seed and I'd allocated 2 pots. The very next cross had
64 seed and I gave it 3 pots! What was I thinking??? <vbg>
