Re: HYB: Genetics of Rebloom

Anybody have thoughts about rebloom & aphylla?

Which reminded me that I'd never posted a follow-up
about my possibly reblooming seedling ('Rosalie Figge'
X aphylla). It had bloomed in the fall of its first
year in the ground, so I'd crossed my fingers that it
might be a rebloomer. Well, two Autumns have come and
gone now, with no re-bloom. It does have very nice
spring bloom (it's shorter and very early) and
probably carries reblooming genes. It hasn't had
pollen, but I've gotten seed from it using pollen of
Lowell Baumunk's pumila, 'Lesser Goldfinch'. I haven't
planted those seeds yet, but I'm guessing they would
be analogous and should be interfertile with the
Standard Dwarf Beardeds.

And back to the subject of aphyllas I've got four
clones now and noticed just the other day that they
are rather variable for holding onto their foliage.
One of the four already has no foliage, just points of
the rhizomes sticking up. The other three still have
attached green foliage.
