Mike,
That's a tough one! We learned some time back not to send iris that we
couldn't part with after receiving some back that were NOT our iris.
Which may indicate 1. they had been mislabeled at the guest garden, or
2. carelessness on handling.
A lot of the gardens hire help to plant and return iris after a
convention. I know how easy it is to have occasional help mess things
up. We either get hispanics or asians through our local day help
services ( and sometimes through a local church.) Most have only
rudimentary english. So we donate the named ones to the Iris Society or
Region that is putting on the convention and request the seedlings be
destroyed.
I've tried high school kids and once managed to get a white couple but
they walked off after a half day saying the work was too hard.
Vicki
