Re: CULT: labels from vinyl siding & paint pens

Anner, I don't remember trying to use siding for labels - have generally been more or less happy with the vinyl blinds until this year with the chip mulch. Pieces of blind long enough to go thru the layer of mulch and anchor in the dirt are too flimsy.

But I did mess around with pieces of siding trying to make dividers to put between individual older seedlings to help keep track of which rhizomes go with which plant. Not satisfactory - too flimsy to push into the ground past the gravel and too much trouble to cut with 'spikes' on one side.

<What are you using to write on the tags/labels? I'm still using the fine
point paint marker made by the people that make Elmer's glue. >

Betty, I'm using the same type of paint "pen". So far, none of the labels made on vinyl blinds using the paint pens have deteriorated. Can't say the same for the thin blinds.

Would have to check the archives to see when I first started using paint pens per suggestions from folks here, but it's been several years. Started with the solvent based ear tag paint pen, which is <wonderful> for writing on damp leaves. Then switched to these water based ones, which don't work on damp leaves, but I prefer otherwise - less prone to big blobs of paint, easier to write smaller, more readily available here, and less expensive.

My only complaint is that they don't hold enough paint! Plus it's a 45 minute drive one way to the nearest supply. I like to buy local, but am ready to order online - do you have a supplier to recommend?
