Yes, Linda, in the case of HAUNTING I was after a rebloomer. In the case of STEALTH FIGHTER, I was trying for what I got, blue-violet stands and near black velvet falls. The rebloom was a bonus. -- Griff

Thanks Griff. I appreciate the input. But my primary (short term) goal is <not> rebloom, so that doesn't really help. But it is pretty remarkable (and encouraging) that you got rebloom from parents where you couldn't know if the sets of genes for rebloom (of which I've been told there may be several different ones) were the same, you still got a rebloomer. Were you trying for a rebloomer as your primary goal, or were you trying for something else, hoping that it might also be a rebloomer? The latter is more or less the stage I'm in now.My question is whether or not using the same source for those sets of rebloom genes from a cultivar that <does> rebloom reliably has any effect on the odds of getting rebloom seedlings.I'll have some crosses of sibs to look at next year (IMM x CSONG) X (IMM x CSONG). Not expecting anything much from them, but I am curious to see how many rebloom. Some involve one seedling that reblooms, some neither reblooms. I think there are three or four crosses.Plus several bee pod babies that may or may not be from half sibs. So far, none of those have rebloomed. And there will be some half sib crosses as well - most of those involve one seedling that blooms spring and fall. And some from F2 crosses (cousins? daughters X uncles?)Mostly, I'm just thinking about what I have that is thriving here and what kinds of crosses I might like to try next year.<So, my point is that if one is going to expend effort and garden space on going for rebloom, it's better to stack the odds as much as possible in your favor than to spin the wheel and hope it lands on the gold star. -- Griff>-- Linda Mann east Tennessee USA zone 7/8 East Tennessee Iris Society <http://www.DiscoverET.org/etis> Region 7, Kentucky-Tennessee <http://www.aisregion7.org> American Iris Society web site <http://www.irises.org> talk archives: <http://www.hort.net/lists/iris-talk/> photos archives: <http://www.hort.net/lists/iris-photos/> online R&I <http://www.irisregister.com> --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE IRIS
