such a wide range.>>

Linda,

The wide range probably comes from the varying power of the genetic package
each reblooming parent carries. Apparently, we don't know how many rebloom
genes exit? Also, we don't know how many modifiers exist or what triggers
them? Not all, anyway.

Therefore, when I use two reblooming parents, there is no way I can tell
exactly what is going into the seedlings. In my case, I often make several
different types of crosses. In 2006 the crosses generally broke down into three
categories.

1) strong rebloom x strong rebloom. Example: Star Gate x Matrix (24
planted, more in pots)

In # 1. . . I would expect a high percentage of rebloom. But experience
tells me, it's unlikely the rebloom will be anywhere near 100%. Also expect
high % of plicata based on the plicata influence from Violet Miracle. Will I
be right or wrong? Can't wait to see!

Innocent Star x Rebound gave 71% on a small number of seed. Seven survivors
with five rebloomers. This surprised me.

2) sporadic/carrier rebloom x strong rebloom. Example: Rio x Matrix (can
also be Sincerely Yours x Star Gate)

In # 2 . . . I expect an occasional rebloomer and can get up to 10% with
varying degrees of rebloom intensity. Primarily, this seems to depend on how
strong the rebloom is in the parents, but the genes can be carried without
being expressed in the parent. (Sincerely Yours x Star Gate.) I always hope
the 10% matches up with the prettiest or most interesting ones! <vbg>

3) gene combining or seedling x seedling. Example: red seedling x red
seedling

In # 3 . . . since my seedlings have a high % of rebloom ancestors, anything
is possible. It's always a surprise. The ones I'm watching closest in this
group are (reblooming seedlings from Regimen/Ritual X Tara's Choice) X
1901(0626-1Re X Winesap) Contains Her Royal Highness, Inferno, Gallant Moment,
Feed Back (2) and either Regimen or Ritual. I'm leaning toward Regimen.
Great looking plants with good increase! <vbg> Both parents have either
rebloomed themselves or have siblings that do. Many seedlings from this group
weren't planted due to space.

At this point, I have no way of telling what genes a plant will pass on, or
what modifiers exist or in what quantity. However, I'm getting better at
predicting! Next spring should answer a lot of MY questions. And the summer
that follows should answer even more. But learning is 75% of the fun! Or is
that 95%? Anyone know? <vbg>
