In a message dated 98-10-06 12:13:35 EDT, you write:
<< Dykes published three books. "Irises" is the first. >>
I believe there are four Dykes books.
There are the two you have been discussing, of which I have only seen the
Magnum Opus, and then there are A Handbook of Garden Irises (1924 and 1976)
and a posthumous anthology, Dykes on Irises, compiled by Dillstone in 1932.
In the preface to the Handbook he says the first smaller book, which I guess
is the one Ian has there, was intended as "a rapid survey of Irises as garden
plants". He says it was written over a long weekend in 1911.
