We had and EXTREMELY hot and dry summer and the colour this year is

I must eat the same humble pie Paul. LF is definitely worth having for
garden effect. Not really red though, and on the floppy side.
My ideal iris (in any colour) would be one that had the holding power of
HE MAN, the neat foliage of WITCHES SABBATH, the form of AMERICA'S CUP,
and the size of ENGLISH CHARM, and the long bloom period of ELECTRIQUE.
If started a breeding program using these 5 irises, I hate to think what
dreadful copour combinations I'd end up with!
BTW, as you all settle in for the winter we have just switched to
summer time here in AUS. Yesterday I woke at 6.00, put the clock on to
7.00 and pretended I'd slept in for an hour. Then there was some serious
mowing (up to shoulder high grass - no kidding!) and weeding of the
grab-with-both-hands-and-pull-with-all-your-might kind, to be done.
Husband was caught later admiring my work and actually sniffing the
irises! Even suggested positions where new garden beds could go for
'balance'. He suggested I make a note of what grows well here and simply
plant more of the same. Looks like more irises, lavanders and hebes, and
a busy season preparing more beds.
Cheers, Jan Clark
