According to an item in the Fall 1995 issue of ROOTS (the HIPS Journal), I.
florentina may be distinguished by the presence of scattered hairs (such as
those of which the beard consists) located on the inner side of the
standards near the base.

I. florentina, along with I. germanica, is supposedly an infertile hybrid
of unknown origin. As such, it is most doubtful that you would be able to
obtain viable seed from self-fertilized I. florentina.
