In its native habitat in Greece, Iris attica breaks summer dormancy in mid
September, when the rains return. Mine have only just begun to break
summer dormancy (about 1 month late) here in Cincinnati.
I assumed that with Cincinnati's climate being slightly colder and much
wetter than the location in Greece where I dug them, that they would break
dormancy before mid September. Would anybody care to speculate on why it
didn't happen that way?
P.S. The Iris cretensis never went dormant, which really surprised me.
