Just a shot at this one. I plant mine in pots (so the bulbs won't get lost) 
and bury the pot out in the ground. Like most bulbs excellent drainage is a 
must, but some moisture is needed so some organic material is also needed. 
Some cold weather then a bit a warmth might give you a shot of color much 
earlier than any other iris besides I. unguicularis. I use a bit of bulb food 
when planting, water well, Put the pot in a garden site and let it do it's 
thing. After blooming the D breaks down to very tiny bulbs and those bulbs 
will not bloom for 3-4 years when enough size has been attained. Go for it 
and let us know your success. Perhaps you'll be the first kid on the block 
with the new toy.
