ALWAYS, ready to speculate... how about the night time temperature has
to be below a certain point to break dormancy (as seems to be the case
for a lot of our fall rebloomers in this part of the world). So it
would get colder earlier in a desert/Mediterranean climate than it would
in wet ol Ohio (I know it's been a drought this year, but maybe it has
still been warmer at night). Or maybe it has to be cooler for a certain
lenghth of time BEFORE it gets wetter - our wretched summer may have
kept average (day +night) temps too high till later in the year. Or
maybe some other thing that I haven't thought of initiated some other
kind of dormancy that doesn't usually get triggered in Greece. I am
thinking of all the rebloom that Mike Sutton lists for their place
compared to rebloom performance here, even with extra water, fertilizer,
the works - some plants, especiall those that evolve (those of you in
the midwest who dont' know what that means, contact me offline) in
hostile environments, have all kinds of physiological safety systems in
place to make sure they don't start growing until life is a sure bet.
So Cincinnati may have it confused about what is an ok time to grow.

Is that enough speculative BS?
