The iris-l archives were always public. This is how I got here. I searched
for 'iris' found the archives, and read my way into becoming an irisoholic.
The archives of iris-talk and iris-photos are marked PUBLIC and are
accessable by anyone who chooses to read them.
They are also available from www.Mallorn.com/lists/
I think this is an excellent way to disseminate knowledge of our favourite
flowers, among the public. Knowledge of this kind should be freely shared,
and gardeners have always been good at this type of sharing, as well as
sharing their plants.
Not all organisations take this view. Some prefer their collective wisdom to
be available only to those willing to pay for it. In the long run, they are
the losers.
I rarely receive unsolicited mail. I don't participate in chat groups, but I
have no idea if this makes one more vulnerable to unwanted mail.
Cheers, Jan Clark
