White Lightning and the VE E iris grow very well for me in Albuquerque.
Everyone seems to be attempting to create more cold hardy varieties. What
about the heat, wind and sun? Because of the problems caused by warm weather
on iris maybe these and other early tender varieties might help in creating
bearded iris that will grow and bloom in the southern states. All of the
iris listed as tender by Walter grow very well for me, and we do get frosts
in April. I specifically picked WL to cross because she has so much
substance that she stood up to 60mph winds, heat, and drought without
batting an eye or should I say she didn't even loose a petal. They are
predicting a 50 year or is that 500 year warming trend in the southwest. I
am covering most of my iris beds with shade cloth, but WL is not in one of
those beds and she has not sunburn.
