That sounds like one of my accidental experiments, Sandra <g>.
The soil in the pots is not sterilized, nor are the pots. However, the
rhizomes rot just as well in the pots as they do in the garden. I want
them to rot right away if they are going to (while in the little pots),
so I won't have to go to the trouble of planting them and taking care of
them, only to have them die later when they get stressed.

<I have been doing sort of an unintended experiment here. I have had a
potted rhizome of "Cranberry Ice" that has been sitting in water for
weeks at a time and other than yellowing of the leaves from lack of
oxygen, the rhizomes have shown
no sign whatsoever of rotting. I was wondering if sterilized soil is
the difference between rhizomes not rotting in the pot and rhizomes
rotting in garden soil. Was the soil you were using for your pots
sterilized ??>
