So true, but with the recent reorganization because of the onset
of harder times and leaner budgets, things might get better.
I speak from first-hand experience, having worked for the
'system' back in the 50s and again in the 80s and 90s. The fat cat
only got fatter and fatter over the years with needless duplication
and sloth I referred to in a post months ago.
We just had an honorable happening in our state legislature. A
long time state senator resigned because he was disgusted with the
'system.' He stated that while waiting for certain committees to
report, the remaining legislators just sat around, smoked cigars,
told jokes, and played cards! That's what I saw also in the
Extension Service and Experiment Station.
It would also be nice if the scientists studying rot had an interest in
irises, knew what one was, or better yet had lost one to the
malady.
The USDA truck has been here more often this summer because
the driver is a new employee. He comes to check on my tulips and
chew a little fat or ask for directions to his next stop.
