Hi Ellen:
Our soil is naturally acidic here 6.5 ph. But once
the soil is broke and used for a while the acidic base
tends to leach out with rain and watering.I guess the
acidity comes from the spruce and pine forests here.
With the above in mind I do it only when the plant
appears to need the treatment, not when planting.
After that plants season is done I then rectify the
problem by replanting. Out of some four hundred plus
lilies I usually end up treating three or four a year,
then correct the problem in the fall.
