Darm, I am guessing that the conifers grow well in colder,
on-the-acid- side-soil climates.....rather the trees making the
soil acid. We have on various areas of the property pH of 5.6 up
to 6.1. The 6.1 is near the only fir tree on the property. I
would love it if I could get the pH of the soil up to 6.5 for
the bearded plantings.

Are these lilium, true lilies? If so, they prefer more alkaline
soil and do well in a culture like the bearded irises. Daylilies
(hems) do like it more acid but they seem to grow anywhere and
you can't kill the things...no matter how you try. :-)
