Linda,
Dividing every 2 years in a 20' x 30' bed should be fine, remember
you're not going to gain space when you divide, either you will have
to build another plot or give or throw away the extras. A 2 year
clump looks great when it blooms with multiple stalks
Commercial gardens sometimes dig and divide every year, but
they are growing a crop from year to year and it is best for business
if the plant doesn't bloom the first year because this is what they can
sell.

I am a member of the Southern California Iris Society, the next meeting
is 9/27/03 in Lecture Hall B at the Los Angeles County Arboretum on
Baldwin in the city of Arcadia, across from the San Anita Race Track.
What we do is walk in through the Gift Shop, since we don't have to pay
admission to attend the iris meeting. Normally they have a potluck lunch
at 12 noon and meeting at 1:00pm. Contact President Mike Monninger
at mdmoger@netscape.com for more information. I'm more active with
the San Fernando Valley Iris Society www.geocities.com/sfvis
