Re: Hyb and such

Neil,

Laurie's right, it's not lack of interest.
We're busy planting and playing in the dirt
still. I've been planting almost nonstop here
trying to get finished up. That and I'm trying
to get ready to hike to the bottom of the Grand
Canyon this weekend. (Guess I'm hiking back out
too, least that's the plan)

Among my planned winter projects, I had decided
to study both MASTERY and the "umbrata"
pattern. When it bloomed here last year, I
recognized it as a variation on variegata, but
really don't yet fully appreciate what all is
going on there. I need to study its pedigree.
I also need to learn more about the inheritance
of the Joyce Terry pattern.

I'm especially interested in MASTERY because it
has produced seedlings that have the yellow rim
around the wider tan rim. Barry Blyth had
written that RULING LORD, a MASTERY offspring
was producing this pattern as well. I can't
wait to make some crosses with these two next
spring.

Do you have any recommendations for additional
reading material on pattern inheritance? I
have read World of Iris and the recent
Bulletins, but I am a voracious reader and
winters are long and cold here, so I get plenty
of time to read up. Then maybe I can at least
feel like I can ask halfway intelligent
questions. But not knowing much makes it fun
too, I learn something new almost every day : )

Robin

zone 5 NE (where at least its too cold for
fire ants... I'll have to remember that in
January)
