We're in the process of potting 300 for our spring show.
First we put a coffee filter in bottom of pot, add soil up
to top of filter, then sprinkle a little All-American 16-16-16.
This is the least expensive $5-6 for 20 pounds at Home Depot.
Then we add more soil, plant rhizome, a little more soil and water.
We've done this for quite a few years with no problems, we don't
fertilize in spring. The rhizome never touches the fertilizer, eventually
the roots grow down to the area where it is.
